ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Two members of the Manhattanville College women’s ice hockey team – junior co-captain Tianna Lopes (West Vancouver, British Columbia/Pacific Steelers (JWHL)) and rookie Lena Flores (Chicago, Ill./Guerin College Prep) – earned weekly honors from the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC), announced today, Monday, Nov. 25.
Lopes was named UCHC South Player of the Week after helping to lead the Valiants to a 2-1 record last week. She stared with two goals in a tough 3-2 loss at Trinity College on Tuesday, Nov. 19, followed by a career-best four points – including her second-career hat trick – as Manhattanville defeated Lebanon Valley College 6-0 on Friday, Nov. 22. She closed out the week by assisting on the game-winning-goal in overtime during the Crimson and White’s 1-0 overtime win at Chatham University on Saturday, Nov. 23.
Flores picked up UCHC South Rookie of the Week accolades following a pair of starts and a 1-1 record between the pipes, during which she posted a 1.51 goals against average and a .938 save percentage. She started with a career-best 35 saves in the tough one-goal loss at the Bantams on Tuesday, followed by her first-career shutout with 10 saves during the win at Lebanon Valley on Friday.
This is the first award of the season for Lopes, who picked up two from the UCHC in 2018-19, while Flores counts this as her first-career accolade as a collegian. The two Valiants, as well as the rest of their squad, return to action after Thanksgiving this Saturday afternoon, Nov. 30, when Connecticut College comes to Playland Ice Casino in Rye, N.Y., for a 3:00 p.m. puck-drop.
