ANNVILLE, Pa. – Freshman Taylor Bommarito (Sterling Heights, Mich./Charlotte Rush (USPHL)) of the Manhattanville College men’s hockey team was recognized as the Middle Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Valiants with a three-point week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Bommarito is the third straight Valiant to be named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week and the fourth Manhattanville skater in the last five weeks to earn the award. Since Thanksgiving, Manhattanville has earned seven of the 10 possible MAC men’s hockey weekly awards.
Bommarito scored a team-best two goals and added an assist in three games for Manhattanville last week. He had a game-high two points in Tuesday’s 4-1 win over SUNY Cortland, assisting on the game’s first goal just 1:13 in and then adding a power-play tally in the second period. The freshman also scored the Valiants’ lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Williams College on Friday night.
The freshman has made an immediate impact with Manhattanville in his first season, ranking second on the team with seven goals – including a team-best five power-play tallies – and adding four assists for 11 points. He enters the week leading all MAC freshmen in both goals and points this year and is tied for seventh nationally in goals among first-year players. He also ranks third overall in the conference in goals, eighth in points and second in power-play goals, while his five man-up goals are tied for 10th in Division III.
Bommarito and the Valiants will get back into UCHC action on Friday with a home matchup against Elmira College beginning at 7 p.m. at Playland Ice Casino.
