Marks Scores First Collegiate Goal; Oswego Ties NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. – Lizzy Marks (Fr., Penfield, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal as the Oswego State women’s ice hockey team (0-1-1) and New England College (1-0-1) tied 1-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The Pilgrims opened scoring six minutes into the game on a goal from Rachel Vigliano assisted by Aubrey Fischer. With less than a minute remaining in the first period, Marks put the puck in the goal to tie the game for the Lakers.Melissa Seamont (North Bay, Ont.) and Jocelyn St. Clair (Cambridge, Ont.) earned assists on the play.

Oswego State had several odd man rushes, but was unable to pull ahead.  Neither team was able to score in the second and third period, which sent the game into overtime.

After five minutes of overtime, the game remained tied. Both teams had opportunites to score as the Lakers had four power play chances and New England College had three chances.

Bridget Smith (Hamburg, N.Y.) had a strong showing in the net with 27 saves.  Lauren Hopps finished the game with 21 stops.

Oswego State plays its first conference game next Friday at 7 p.m. against host Utica.
