CANTON, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo sophomore forward Anthony Marra totaled two goals and two assists while senior forward Stephen Collins was credited with a goal and three assists to lead the No. 8 Knights to an 8-3 victory at Canton, Saturday.
Canton scored 59 seconds into the game before Geneseo (3-1-1) first-year forward Conlan Keenan evened the score with 14:54 on the clock. However, it was the Kangaroos re-taking the lead with a tally 44 seconds later. Marra scored the first of Geneseo’s three power-play tallies on the day with 8:42 on the clock as the teams hit the first intermission tied, 2-2.
Canton (1-3-1) once again re-took the lead 2:50 into the second period, but it was Collins and junior defenseman Pat Condon scoring goals in a span of 28 seconds to put Geneseo into the lead with 16:17 remaining. First-year forward David Szmyd scored at 13:48 as the Knights scored three of the next four goals to close the second period with a 7-4 edge it would not relinquish. First-year forward Devin Brink and first-year forward Andrew Romano got into the goal-scoring action.
Canton scored its lone goal of the third period with 7:27 left in regulation, but it was Marra closing the game with a goal with 3:39 to play for the final margin of victory.
Senior Matt Leon totaled 19 saves to earn the victory in goal for Geneseo in his first start of the season while the Knights built a 38-24 edge in shots.
Geneseo returns home to host Brockport next Saturday (Nov. 19) at 7:00 p.m.
