ROCHESTER, NY – Senior forward Brad McGowan (Langley, British Columbia/Surrey Eagles) of the RIT men’s hockey team, was named the Atlantic Hockey Conference (AHC) Player of the Month for February, 2015, on Thursday, March 5. It is the first monthly honor of his RIT career.
McGowan tallied 13 points on eight goals and five assists and was plus-8 in a 5-2-1 month for the Tigers. He opened the month with back-to-back two point nights (one goal, one assist each night) in a four-point weekend against Niagara. On Feb. 14, McGowan scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory over Holy Cross. After recording an assist against No. 19 Robert Morris on Feb. 20, McGowan recorded his first collegiate hat-trick and added an assist and was plus-3 in a 4-3 win over the Colonials. He tallied the natural hat-trick, scoring RIT’s final three goals, including the game-winner getting behind 3-1. On Feb. 27, McGowan tallied two goals and added an assist and was plus-3, recording his 100th career point on a third period power-play goal in an 8-0 win over Mercyhurst.
McGowan, who was named the AHC Player of the Week on Feb. 24, and secured the top play in the NCAA Hockey Top-5 Plays of the Week the same day, now has 36 points on 16 goals and 20 assists and is plus-17 this season. McGowan has 100 career points on 39 goals and 61 assists.
The Tigers return to action next weekend, March 13-15, hosting a yet-to-be determined opponent in the best-of-three AHC Quarterfinal series from the Gene Polisseni Center.
