VIERUMAKI, Finland – Meghan Duggan (Danvers, Mass.) has been named captain of the U.S. Women’s National Team that will compete at the 2016 Four Nations Cup from November 1-5, in Finland, it was announced today by USA Hockey. In addition, Kacey Bellamy (Westfield, Mass.) and Monique Lamoureux-Morando (Grand Fork, N.D.) will serve as alternate captains.
“We have a strong leadership group and Meghan continues to play a vital role in setting a great example for our team,” said Ken Klee, head coach of the 2016 U.S. Women’s National Team. “All three of our captains provide the key characteristics that will help us achieve our overall goals during this tournament.”
Duggan most recently served as team captain at the 2016 International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship. It is the eighth time she has served in that role for Team USA. Duggan was team captain for the U.S. at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, one additional IIHF Women’s World Championship (2015), two other Four Nations Cups (2011, 2015) and a pair of Under-22 Series (2007, 2008). She has also been an alternate captain at the 2013 IIHF Women’s World Championship and 2012 Four Nations Cup.
A two-time silver-medalist at the Olympic Winter Games (2010, 2014), Duggan has represented the U.S. Women’s National Team in seven IIHF Women’s World Championships (gold-2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016; silver-2007), eight Four Nations Cups (1st-2008, 2011, 2012, 2015; 2nd-2007, 2009, 2010; 3rd-2013) and one IIHF Twelve Nations Invitational Tournament Series (2011).
Bellamy is appearing in her eleventh IIHF Women’s World Championship, while Lamoureux-Morando is competing in her ninth.
