NORTHEASTERN TOPS RPI MEN’S HOCKEY

TROY, N.Y.  – Sophomore Devon Levi stopped 25 of 26 shots to lead the 18th-ranked Northeastern University men’s hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Friday night at the Houston Field House. With the win, the Huskies improve to 10-4-1 overall, while the Engineers drop to 6-6-2.

Bears blanked by Continentals, 3-0

CLINTON, N.Y.-Hamilton College (2-1) scored two power-play goals to defeat the SUNY Potsdam men’s hockey team (0-7) 3-0 on Saturday evening. Senior goalie Michael Paglucca (North Reading, Mass./New Hampshire Avalanche) made 32 saves for the Bears.

Carter Dwyer opened the scoring at 6:53 of the first period with an even-strength marker. Just 1:59 later, James Philpott doubled the lead on the Continentals’ first power play of the game. Hamilton outshot Potsdam 12-10 in the period.

There was no scoring in the second period. Each team earned a power play, but was unable to take advantage.

At 6:02 of the third period, Chad Varney closed the scoring with another power-play goal. The teams each had two more power-play opportunities, but couldn’t generate anymore strong scoring chances.

Sean Storr made 27 saves to clinch the shutout for the Continentals.

RPI Men’s Hockey Falls Late to No. 18 NU, 2-1

BOSTON, Mass. – The 18th-ranked Northeastern University men’s hockey team scored twice in the third period to earn a come-from-behind, 2-1, victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), on Sunday afternoon at Matthews Arena. With the win, the Huskies sweep the weekend series and improve to 11-4-1, while the Engineers drop to 6-7-2.

Marcus Mitchell’s Two Goals Lead Plattsburgh State Men’s Ice Hockey to 4-3 Overtime Victory over MSOE in FirstLight Shootout

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Junior forward Marcus Mitchell (Kelowna, British Columbia/University of Alaska Anchorage) scored two goals, including the game-winning goal, to propel Plattsburgh State men’s ice hockey to a 4-3 overtime victory over the Milwaukee School of Engineering in the FirstLight Shootout on Saturday at Middlebury College’s Chip Kenyon ’85 Arena.

Plattsburgh State (5-3-1) faces No. 6 Norwich University tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. for its final game of the FirstLight Shootout. The winner of that game will be the FirstLight Shootout champion. MSOE, who finished third in the FirstLight Shootout, travels to Adrian College for a two-game series at 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, and Saturday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m.

With the score tied 3-3 in overtime, Mitchell gave Plattsburgh State the victory with his second goal of the night at the 1:13 mark. Mitchell took a wrist shot from just inside the top of the left circle that hit off the goaltender’s left shoulder before finding its way just inside the right post to give the Cardinals a 4-3 overtime victory. First-year defenseman Jack Ring (Hingham, Mass./Northeast Generals) tallied his seventh assist of the season on the play.

Plattsburgh State Men’s Ice Hockey Falls to No. 6 Norwich University, 5-2, in FirstLight Shootout Championship Game

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Playing for the FirstLight ShootOut championship, the Plattsburgh State men’s ice hockey team lost to No. 6 Norwich University, 5-2, on Sunday at Middlebury College’s Chip Kenyon ’85 Arena. 

Plattsburgh State (5-4-1), which finished as the runner-up in the FirstLight ShootOut, had sophomore forward Bennett Stockdale(Ottawa, Ontario/Alabama Huntsville) and junior forward Marcus Mitchell (Kelowna, British Columbia/University of Alaska Anchorage) named to the all-tournament team. 

The Cardinals next host SUNY Potsdam at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, on Casella Teddy Bear Toss Night. Norwich (5-0-3) hosts Southern Maine at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3.  

Canisius Hockey Defeated by AIC in Series Finale

Blake Bennett’s breakaway goal midway through the third period proved to be the difference as AIC defeated Canisius, 3-2, in Atlantic Hockey Association action Saturday at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.

Luka Maver and Justin Young also scored for the Yellow Jackets (4-9-1, 4-4-0 AHA), who salvaged a split of the weekend series. Alec Calvaruso made 16 saves between the pipes for the visitors.

Graduate student Austin Alger and sophomore Max Kouznestov accounted for the two goals for the Golden Griffins (8-6-1, 5-3-0 AHA). Junior goaltender Jacob Barczewski finished with 23 saves.
