William Smith first-year Megan Messuri<http://www.hwsathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5547> was named to the ECAC Women’s West honor roll by the league office late yesterday. Messuri is the first Heron to receive recognition from the league this season.
Messuri started both games in goal this past weekend, stopping 81 shots while recording a .941 save percentage. She made 41 saves in Saturday’s 1-1 tie at Potsdam helping the Herons earn their first varsity point. After allowing an early first period goal, Messuri stood tall between the pipes stopping the next 40 shots she faced, including 18 in third period and overtime to help preserve the tie. On Sunday, she added another 40 saves.
William Smith (0-5-1) returns home this weekend to take on ECAC West foe Neumann. Messuri and Maggie Salmon<http://www.hwsathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5549> have each started three games in goal this season. Messuri has posted a 3.19 goals against average and a .930 save percentage. Salmon is sporting a 3.96 goals against average and a .901 save percentage.
Neumann (0-6-0) comes to Geneva after dropping a pair of games to Buffalo State last weekend. Bek Lucas (2g, 1a) and Shanelle Doucette (1g, 2a) share team-high honors with three points. Justina Mayr has played all but 20 minutes in net for the Knights, posting a .914 save percentage and a 3.87 goals against average.
