CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — ECAC Hockey has announced its monthly award winners, and Zach Metsa (Quinnipiac), Emil Zetterquist (St. Lawrence), and Ayrton Martino (Clarkson) have all been honored for the month of October.
Player of the Month
Metsa (Delafield, Wisc.) averaged a point-per game in October, helping the No. 6/6 Bobcats to a 5-1-2 record, which included four games against nationally-ranked opponents. The senior had three multi-point outings, including a three-assist night in a 5-2 win over North Dakota. He played a part in both goals (1-1) in the final game of the month, a 2-1 win over AIC. Perhaps more impressively, the blue-liner was outstanding defensively, boasting a +10 on-ice rating in the month.
MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Month
Zetterquist (Stockholm, Swe.) backstopped St. Lawrence to a 1-1-2 mark during his starts in October, making more than 20 stops in each game while allowing only six goals. His best performance came in the season-opener at Colorado College, where he made 40 saves, allowing just one goal in a 1-1 tie. He stopped 117 of 123 shots that came his way, boasting a 1.45 GAA and .951 saver percentage.
Rookie of the Month
After being held off the scoring sheet during Clarkson’s opening weekend, Martino (Toronto, Ont.) turned on the jets, registering six points over his next three games. The rookie forward played a huge role in the Golden Knights power play success against Canisius and Alaska, as all six of his helpers came on man-up opportunities. His best performance came on October 22, when he assisted on three of Clarkson’s five goals in a 5-1 win over Alaska.
