With the addition of St. Mary’s of Lancaster the private schools now have a Championship Game of their own. Private schools aren’t allowed to take part in Section VI playoffs; so in the past WNYGVIH held two championship games, one for Federation which included every team and another for just Section VI. That eliminated MonMar until now.

As with other teams that have come into the League, St. Marys has had a tough season. They sat in last place, winless, for the entire season. They had a tie with Hamburg/Eden/West Seneca and a 3-2 overtime loss to LID. Niagara County and LID remember that feeling from their first year in the league.

MonMar has Camryn Brownschidle in the top of the scoring chart with 28 points and they also have the top goaltender in Senior Sophia Will. Will played 702.9 minutes with 6 shutouts and a .956 save percentage.

The Inaugural Private School Championship opened at Cornerstone Arena Tuesday night with a goal by Isabella Fedele, assisted by Mia Boyd. That would be the first of a hattrick for Fedele. St. Mary’s Goalie Avery Hall held off nine more shots and the period ended 1-0 MonMar.

In the second, Mia Boyd added two more, first assist from Fedele and second assist by Ryann Honadle. Second ends 3-0.

In the third MonMar dropped in four more. Scoring were Boyd, Fedele and Brownschidle with assists coming from Alexandria Franke. Boyd also had a hattrick in the game and Brownschidle scored unassisted.

The game ends 7-0 with Monsignor Martin’s Sophia Will getting the shutout.
