The Morrisville men’s hockey team scored five consecutive goals spanning the end of the first period through the second period to erase a 2-0 deficit and went on to a 7-3 win versus Cortland Saturday night in SUNYAC action. The Red Dragons fell to 0-4-1 overall and in the conference, while the Mustangs evened their record at 2-2-2 overall and in league play.
Junior Michael Markowitz (Staten Island/NY Bobcats), sophomore Casie Garrison (Cortland/Philadelphia Revolution) and freshman Dan Broderick (White Plains/New York PAL Islanders) each netted a goal for Cortland. Senior Nick Zappia (Manlius/Kingston Voyageurs), juniors Ryan Wagner (Buffalo/Aberdeen Wings) and Brant Sherwood (Rochester/Drayton Valley Thunder) and freshman Brendan Pascarella (Sloatsburg/Hartford Jr. Wolfpack) chipped in with one assist apiece. Freshman goalie Drew Weigman (Annapolis, MD/Northern Cyclones) made 27 saves.
Zach Baker and Rob Molinaro each tallied a pair of goals for the Mustangs with Baker adding an assist. Matt Beer registered one goal and three assists, Joseph Santino and Steve Dol tallied one goal and one assist apiece and Darren Young and Zach Bayer notched a pair of assists each.
iCortland took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals from Garrison and Markowitz. Morrisville cut the advantage to 2-1 with a late power play goal. The Mustangs took control of the game by outscoring Cortland, 4-0, in the second period to build a 5-2 lead. Broderick’s goal at 46 seconds on the third period made it a 5-3 game, but Molinaro scored at 3:07 to push the lead to 6-3 and Dol sealed the win with an empty-net score at 17:30.
