MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Mustangs returned to the ice at Salem State on Saturday afternoon and walked away with another shutout victory, defeating the host Vikings 6-0.
Morrisville picked up right where they left off on Friday night, tallying three power play goals in the opening period. Stephanie Strymecki (Kelowna, British Columbia) led off the scoring for the Mustangs just five minutes into regulation. After taking a pass from Kali Rutka (Anchorage, Alaska), Strymecki took a shot from the end line and deflected it off the back of the Salem State goalie and into the net.
The Mustangs scored again six minutes later when Kaitlyn Schlake (Nampa, Idaho) found the back of the net off of a give and go from Kelley Graham (Mississauga, Ontario). Strymecki also assisted on the play. Morrisville ended up taking the 3-0 lead when Graham got herself on the scoreboard just over a minute later. Kim Hughes (Lloydminster, Alberta) and Schlake picked up the assists.
The Mustangs doubled their score in the second period, scoring three more times to make the score 6-0. Rutka picked up the first and last goals of the period, the first, a wrist shot that sliced through the Vikings’ defense and her second fifteen seconds after Alicia Eamon (Williamstown, Ontario) scored her first goal of the season.
Renee Schmaltz (Beaumont, Alberta) was a wall in the net for Morrisville, picking up her second consecutive shutout. Schmaltz recorded 18 saves.
The Mustangs will remain on the road next weekend at SUNY Canton for their Colonial Hockey Conference series, but will return home on Friday, November 20 against Daniel Webster. The first faceoff is scheduled for 7 PM.
