UTICA, NY – Senior Casey Kubara and freshman Johnny Jackson each scored goals for the Nazareth College Men’s Hockey team but the Golden Flyers surrendered three goals in the first period and four more in the second to fall 7-2 at Utica Saturday night.

The Nazareth (0-9 overall, 0-9 UCHC) managed just two shots in the opening period while Utica (5-1, 5-1 UCHC) countered with three goals including a pair of power play goals.

In the second period, the Pioneers added to the lead with three goals in the first eight minutes to take a 6-0 edge.

Nazareth finally scored as Kubara took a pass from junior JT Entelisano and scored the first goal for the Golden Flyers in three games. Nazareth had suffered a pair of shutout losses and had a streak of 160 minutes without a goal snapped with the on-timer by Kubara.

Just 33 seconds later, Utica regained the six-goal advantage to close out the scoring for the first two periods.

In the third, Jackson netted his first career goal after intercepting a pass and putting a quick shot pass the Pioneer goalie to cut the lead to 7-2 with 12:21 left to play.

Neither team scored the rest of the game, but emotions overflowed late in the game as three players from each team were sent off the ice with penalties after a mid-ice collision that involved junior Cole Moore.

Sophomore Gage Roberts started for Nazareth in goal and made 15 saves before freshman Raphael Provenchertook over for the final 28 minutes and made 15 saves without allowing a goal.

Nazareth will close out the regular season with a home game at 2 p.m. Saturday against Stevenson.
