Nazareth Women’s Hockey Tops Stevenson To Stay Unbeaten

REISTERTOWN, Md. — Emily Kromer and Kyla Thompson each scored a pair of goals for visiting Nazareth Friday as the Golden Flyers remained unbeaten in women’s hockey action with a 4-1 victory over Stevenson in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference matchup.

Three of the four Nazareth goals came on the power play as the Golden Flyers improved to 7-0 overall, while Stevenson fell to 1-5-1. The teams play again Saturday at 3 p.m.

Nazareth had a 44-23 advantage in shots, including a 15-6 edge in the opening period, but neither team was able to score. Nazareth committed a pair of minor penalties, but was successful on the penalty kill, while goalie Adrianna Brehm making six routine saves.

In the second period, Nazareth finally cashed in just 19 seconds after a tripping penalty to Stevenson’s Abigail Shows. Thompson tipped in a shot by Stephanie Kubis for the 1-0 advantage.

Kromer’s first goal of the game, and fifth of the season, came at 19:43 as she knocked in a rebound off a shot by Keeley Rose. Hailey Redders also gained an assist.

Nazareth cashed in on the power play two more times in the third period to seal the victory. After another Stevenson tripping penalty, Nazareth had a chance when a shot by Thompson sailed wide of the net. The rebound caromed to Kromer, who delivered a wrist shot into the open side of the goal.

Stevenson scored a power play goal of its own to trim Nazareth’s lead to 3-1, but the Golden Flyers scored again at 15:47, just 43 seconds after a Stevenson roughing penalty. Thompson again was the beneficiary as she tipped in a shot by Kubis with Kromer also gaining an assist.

Brehm was busiest in the third period as the Mustangs picked up the intensity, causing her to make 11 of her 22 saves. Nazareth’s penalty kill was solid as the Golden Flyers killed off six of Stevenson’s seven power play chances.
