Utica Comets Director of Hockey Operations Pat Conacher has announced that the club has re-signed defenseman John Negrin to an American Hockey League contract for the 2016-17 season.
Negrin, 27, collected 11 points (1-10-11) in 58 games for the Comets during the 2015-16 season. He set career highs in games played (58), and shots on goal (64). His 10 assists tied a career-high previously set with the Abbotsford Heat during the 2009-10 season. In three seasons with the Comets, Negrin has amassed 15 points (1-14-15) in 109 games.
Prior to joining the Comets for the 2013-14 season, Negrin split the 2012-13 season with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves and Lake Erie Monsters as well as the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL. Between his two AHL stops, Negrin registered five points in 18 games (2-3-5) while he collected another nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 44 ECHL contests.
The 6’2”, 202-pound native of Vancouver, British Columbia has appeared in 236 AHL games with the Abbotsford Heat, St. John’s IceCaps, Wolves, Monsters and Comets. Over his seven professional seasons he has compiled 34 AHL points (8-37-45).
In the 2007 National Hockey League Entry Draft, Negrin was selected by the Calgary Flames in the third round (70th overall). He appeared in three NHL games with the Flames and registered an assist during the 2008-09 season.
