Hamilton College’s Sam Walther ’18 (Gambrills, Md./The Gunnery [Conn.]) was named NESCAC Women’s Ice Hockey Player of the Week on Dec. 12.
Walther stopped 52 of the 55 shots she faced in two weekend road wins for the Continentals. She made 33 saves in Friday’s 3-2 overtime victory at SUNY Oswego – recording 14 after the second intermission – as Hamilton handed the Lakers (ranked seventh in both national polls) their second loss in 13 games. Walther added 19 saves in a 3-1 win at SUNY Cortland on Saturday. Hamilton has won four straight games and is receiving votes in both weekly polls for the first time this winter.
For the season, Walther is 5-2-0 with a pair of shutouts. She ranks fourth nationally in save percentage (.963) and her goals against average of 0.89 is sixth.
Walther has been named NESCAC Player of the Week three times in her career; only one Continental has won more.
