CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Neumann University women’s ice hockey team scored two second-period goals and held on for a 2-1 win at Cortland Friday afternoon in ECAC West action at Alumni Arena.

Sophomore Chelsie Hausberger (West Seneca/Buffalo Bisons) netted the Red Dragons’ (1-11-1, 1-6 ECAC West) goal with seniors Brianna Rossi (Stormville/Brewster Bulldogs) and Julia Rapp (Vienna, VA/Northwood School) recording assists. Freshman goalie Deanna Meunier (Parsippany, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) turned aside 29 shots.

Junior Edie Brenning (Greely, ON/Nepean Jr. Wildcats) and freshman Danica Delry (Hamilton, ON/Hamilton Hawks) netted the goals for the Knights (5-9-1, 3-4). Freshmen Donna Williams (Garnett Valley, PA/Quakers) and Ashley Langdon (Waterdown, ON/Hamilton Hawks) chipped in with one assist apiece. Senior goalie Shannon Donnelly (Orleans, ON/Nepean Jr. Wildcats) made 30 saves.

Afrer a scoreless first period, the Knights took a 2-0 lead with goals three and a half minutes apart in the second. Brenning scored on a wrist shot from the slot at three minutes, 31 seconds, and Delry deflected a puck in front that barely slid inside the left post at 7:01. Cortland pulled to within 2-1 at 11:01 of the third period. Just five seconds after a two-skater advantage expired, Hausberger scored on a deflection in front while Cortland still had a power-play chance.

The Red Dragons went back on the power play with 1:28 remaining in regulation and pulled Meunier for an extra skater with 1:10 on the clock. Cortland created several chances but could not get the equalizer past Donnelly as Neumann eventually cleared the puck out of its defensive zone with less than 10 seconds left to seal the win.

The same two teams meet Saturday at 3 p.m.
