NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Facing a two-goal deficit for the second time in as many games, the Niagara men’s hockey team once again clawed its way back to steal points from the Holy Cross Crusaders. The Purple Eagles (4-5-1, 4-3-1 AHA) got goals from Reed Robinson and Luke Edgerton late in the third to get the game to overtime.

Nick Farmer struck the game’s first blow, putting Niagara up 1-0 exactly 14 minutes into the contest. Niagara was killing off a penalty to Jon Hill and Farmer poked the puck away from a Holy Cross defender at the blue line and skated in free for the team’s first shorthanded goal of the year.
Trailing 3-1 in the third, Niagara generated a quality chance that pulled them back to within one. Ludwig Stenlund weaved through a mob near the net and got the puck back to his blueliners. Chris Harpur slipped a pass to Noah Delmas who let go a shot that got caught in the crowd. Robinson found the puck in the fray and extended across the crease to tap it home.
Just 70 seconds later, the Purple Eagles found their equalizer. Delmas once again had a hand in it as he and Johnny Curran got the helpers on Edgerton’s effort that erased the deficit with 5:02 remaining on the clock.
In the extra frame, Eric Cooley nearly got the win. The sophomore slapped a shot from the point that clanged off the pipe in the best chance for either team to steal the game in overtime.

Hockey’s part in the Battle of the Bridge gets its first two installments this upcoming week. Canisius will host the Purple Eagles on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 7:35 p.m. before both clubs head north for a Saturday evening showdown at 7 p.m. on November 17.
