The Niagara University men’s hockey team announced the hiring of two new assistant coaches. John Lidgett and Mark Phalon has joined head coach Jason Lammers on the staff for the 2020-21 season. Lidgett will serve as assistant coach, while Phalon will be the associate head coach.
“John’s intelligence, passion and teaching skills, combined with Mark’s experience, connections and work ethic, will enhance our student athletes as people, students and players,” Lammers stated. “Their character, competence and elite ability to communicate will drive NU Hockey’s journey toward regional dominance and national prominence!”
Lidgett, a native of Calgary, Alberta, spent the 2019-20 season with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL. He also has previous coaching experience with Division III program Aurora University. Lidgett played collegiately at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York from 2011-2015.
Lidgett shared his excitement about coming to NU.
“I am extremely grateful to be joining the Niagara University hockey program and the Niagara University campus community.”
Phalon is moving back east following a two-year stint on the coaching staff at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Prior to working with the Seawolves, he spent three seasons at Hobart College in Geneva, New York. Phalon’s resume also boasts work with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, and St. Lawrence University.
Phalon expressed an eagerness about coming to Monteagle Ridge.
“I am appreciative of coach Lammers for the opportunity to join the Niagara University hockey family. NU hockey has a long-standing tradition with a number of great players and coaches who have come through the program. I am excited to get to work with the players and staff, and can hardly wait to get things going.”
