WINTHROP, Mass. – For the third time this season, Niagara men’s hockey rookie Ludwig Stenlund has been awarded a monthly honor by Atlantic Hockey. After being named the league’s Rookie of the Month for November and January, the Swedish forward has earned the distinction of Player of the Month after a record-breaking February.
Stenlund started the month of February by tying the all-time Niagara record for most consecutive games with a goal (5) during a three-point game at AIC on February 1. He proceeded to break it the following day before the streak eventually ended at eight games.
Overall, Stenlund’s February saw him score eight times in nine games while adding four assists for a 12-point month. Those tallies included four power play goals and a shorthanded strike. Stenlund finished the regular season leading the nation’s freshmen with 19 goals, nine power play goals, 34 points and three shorthanded goals.
In addition to Stenlund’s three awards, Brian Wilson earned AHA Goalie of the Month in October while Noah Delmas was the AHA’s Player of the Month for November. This season Stenlund has also been named the Hockey Commissioners’ Association National Rookie of the Month for January, NCAA Third Star of the Week (November 20), and Atlantic Hockey’s Rookie of the Week twice.
