New York, NY – August 3, 2015: The NWHL (National Women’s Hockey League) announced today the signing of forward Meghan Fardelmann (Boston College) to the New York Riveters and goaltender Lauren Slebodnick (Cornell University) to the Boston Pride.

Meghan Fardelmann played forward for Boston College from 2005-2008. While playing for the Eagles, the Lansing, Kansas native collected 99 points (56g, 43a).

As a freshman, Fardelmann finished fourth on the team with 19 points (9g, 10a) and was named to the Hockey East All-Academic team. During her sophomore year, she once again finished fourth on the team with 38 points (24g, 14a), including five game-winning goals.

In her final year with the Eagles, she finished third on the team with 22 points (11g, 11a). While at Boston College, Fardelmann played on the 2008 U.S. Women’s Under-22 Select Team, participating in USA Hockey’s Women’s Holiday Camp in Blaine, Minnesota and Women’s National Festival in Lake Placid, N.Y.

“I’ll bring experience to the Riveters. I’ve gotten to experience playing overseas and in a Kansas City men’s league. I’ve also had a career as an auto supervisor for several years, and I think both of those playing and working experiences allow me to see things from a different perspective,” said Fardelmann.

“It’s a privilege to get to do something to love, and I’m even luckier General Motors is giving me the green light to go pursue it.”

Goaltender Lauren Slebodnick holds the record for the most wins in the history of Cornell women’s hockey – ending her collegiate career 68-10-5. As a freshman, she posted the Big Red’s first regular-season shutout since 2005 against Mercyhurst.

She appeared in only 16 games, but ended her first collegiate season with a .942 save percentage. Slebodnick started in 15 games her sophomore year, logging five shutouts and winning 14 of the 15 games.

She recorded a 1.45 goals against average, the fourth-best in the country. Slebodnick became the starting goaltender for the Big Red her junior year, recording five shutouts with a .927 save percentage.

In her senior season, the Manchester, New Hampshire native recorded 499 saves for a .909 save percentage – only allowing 50 goals in 24 games. While at Cornell, she was named to the All-Ivy Second Team (2013), ECAC Hockey Third Team (2013) and Ivy League Honorable Mention (2014).

“This season, I hope to be a supportive teammate who brings a high level of energy and competitiveness on and off the ice,” said Slebodnick. “I feel grateful to have this opportunity to continue my hockey career alongside some of the world’s best players and to be a part of this exciting, pivotal time in women’s hockey.”
