New York, NY –The New York Riveters of the NWHL (National Women’s Hockey League) have hired Chad Wiseman as head coach, announced Dani Rylan, who, in addition to serving as the NWHL Commissioner, is also the Riveters’ General Manager.
Wiseman comes to the Riveters after playing 14 years of professional hockey, including time in the NHL with the New York Rangers and San Jose Sharks. At the 2000 NHL Draft, the San Jose Sharks drafted Wiseman 246th overall, and he began playing for them in 2002.
Wiseman was traded by the Sharks in 2003 to the New York Rangers, where he appeared in his first NHL playoff game. The Burlington, Ontario native went on to play in the AHL (American Hockey League) with the Hershey Bears, Lowell Devils, Springfield Falcons, and Albany Devils.
While playing for the Albany Devils, the left wing set a franchise record for the most goals in a single period of play and tied the franchise record for the most goals scored in a single game (4 goals in 9:03 of play). Wiseman spent the 2007-08 season with Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg of the DEL in Germany, but returned to the US and the AHL until 2013 when he signed with the Ostersunds IK of the Division 1 league in Sweden.
In his final year of professional hockey in 2014, Wiseman played with the Nippon Paper Cranes in the ALH in Japan. Upon concluding his professional hockey career, Wiseman received his certifications in shooting, power skating and level 4-power edge pro (PEP).
“Women’s hockey right now in North America is arguably the fastest growing sport. This league is not only great for women’s hockey, but hockey in general.
