The OJHL Championship best-of-seven series opens this evening at 7 p.m. with a special ceremony honoring the year-end award winners.
Among the recipeints are Jordan Dunin, Newmarket, Scholastic Player of the Year; Matt Buckles, St. Michaels, Top Prospect; Patrick McCarron, St. Michaels, Baycon Construction Top Defenseman; Tyler Feaver, Whitbury Fury, Humanitarian of the Year; Dean Klomp, Lindsay Muskies, Most Gentlemanly Player; Charlie Finn, Kingston Voyageurs, Top Goaltender and Goaltender of the Year; Jack Williams, Buffalo Jr. Sabres, Trainer of the Year; Tyler Gjurich, Buffalo Jr. Sabres, Top Scorer, Rookie of the Year and MVP; Michael Peca, Buffalo Jr. Sabres, Executive and Coach of the Year; John Carpino, North York Rangers, Most Improved Player and Mike Johnso, Orangeville Flyers, Volunteer of the Year.
The South-West Conference Champion St. Michaels Buzzers will be facing the North-East Conference Champion Newmarket Hurricanes in quest of the OJHL Championship and the OHA’s Frank L. Buckland Trophy (better known as the Buckland Cup). The winner of this series will move on to the Central Canadian Junior ‘A’ Championship, the Dudley-Hewitt Cup, being held in North Bay, Ontario from April 30 – May 4, 2013.
