CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Syracuse women’s hockey team (5-9-5, 4-2-2 CHA) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period against No. 6 Boston College (13-3-3) at Conte Forum, before coming up short, 4-3, to the Eagles.

“We struggled early in the first, but got our feet going and built a 2-0 lead,” head coach Paul Flanagan said. “Boston College did a nice job of capitalizing on our defensive miscues and we fell behind, 4-2. We played hard in the third only to come up short at the end.”

Laurence Porlier blasted a shot from distance to score the first goal of the game. It was Porlier’s first goal of the season. Alysha Burriss tacked on another goal with seconds left in the first frame. The goal was set up from Heather Schwarz and Jessica Sibley.

The Eagles came out firing in the second period with four goals, three coming from Kristyn Capizzano for the hat trick, taking a 4-2 lead into the third period.

Stephanie Grossi chipped into the Eagles’ lead with a goal, with 11 minutes remaining in the game, bringing the Orange within one, 4-3. The play was facilitated by Savannah Rennie and Allie Munroe.

Abbey Miller played in net for the first two periods, registering 17 saves. Freshman Ady Cohen came in for Miller in the third, recording her first official minutes at Syracuse. She had four saves in the final frame.

With the win, Boston College extended its home unbeaten streak to 59 games, dating back to 2013.

Close games have been the theme of the season for the Orange with five ties and six one-point losses.

The Orange will be back in action on Jan. 10 at Cornell before picking up College Hockey America play with a home series against Penn State.
