SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse Orange (1-5-1, 0-0-0) faced a 5-1 defeat against No. 9 Northeastern (3-3-1, 2-0-0), Friday night at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Freshman Victoria Klimek tallied the only goal for Syracuse in the game.
“I give our kids credit for coming out in the second period,” said head coach Paul Flanagan. “We outshot them 13-3 and did some good things territorially. We can’t dwell on [the loss]. It’s a long season and we stumbled tonight, but we have to pick ourselves up and recover.”
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
The Huskies jumped out to an early lead after posting three goals in the first period of play. Syracuse responded in the second period, outshooting Northeastern 13-3 and keeping it a 3-0 game heading into the final period of play. A pair of costly penalties for the Orange made it a 5-0 game, before Klimek found the back of the net with five minutes left in the game to break up the shutout.
OF NOTE
Klimek has now scored in back-to-back games with her power play goal in the third period. Both of her scores this season have come with a one-man advantage for the Orange.
Senior Stephanie Grossi tallied her first assist of the season on the Klimek goal while Lindsay Eastwood notched an assist for the third consecutive game. Klimek and Eastwood each sit tied for second on the team with three points so far this season.
