SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse ice hockey team faced a 2-0 setback against Lindenwood on Saturday afternoon to split the two-game series. The Orange outshot the Lions 24-16 but could not find the back of the net during the game.

“I thought Lindenwood played an excellent game,” said head coach Paul Flanagan. “They were stronger on their sticks and much more determined and we didn’t respond. I give them a ton of credit and thought they played an excellent game from start to finish.”

HOW IT WAS DECIDED
It was all goalies from the get-go as neither team could generate any offensive production in the first 40 minutes of play. The Lions had their best opportunity of the game just past the 15:00 mark in the second period when the Orange were forced to kill a lengthy five-on-three power play. Pressure on defense and a huge stop by senior Abbey Miller kept the game tied at zero heading into the third period.

Sierra Burt broke the tie for Lindenwood, picking up a redirection by Taylor Girard and just beating Miller glove-side. Girard dumped in an empty-net goal as time expired in the third to cap the 2-0 win for the Lions.

OF NOTE
The Syracuse penalty kill was the highlight of the game as the unit killed off all three Lindenwood power plays and limited the Lions to just three shots on goal during those man advantages. This is the fourth consecutive game that the Orange have not allowed a power play goal.
