Orange Women Blanked By North Dakota

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Syracuse women’s ice hockey team allowed one goal in each period to No. 9 North Dakota on Friday afternoon, as the Orange lost to the Fighting Hawks by a final score of 3-0 at War Memorial Arena. Both sides will face off again today at 3 p.m. at Tennity Ice Pavilion.

Senior netminder Jenn Gilligan made 25 saves in between the pipes for Syracuse (6-9-1), but allowed all three goals. North Dakota (9-4-2) remains unbeaten on the road with a 6-0-2 record.

Becca Kohler gave the Fighting Hawks a 1-0 lead after the first period despite the Orange holding an 11-10 edge in shots. North Dakota then utilized a late first period penalty to go up 2-0 early in the second frame on a goal from Gracen Hirschy. Midway through the third, Amy Menke added some insurance, beating Gilligan with a wrister.

The Orange was unable to get anything past North Dakota goaltender Shelby Amsley-Benzie. Amsley-Benzie finished with 19 saves in net, blocking everything that came her way.
