LaCombe Scores Twice as Orange Tie Friars

Senior forward Allie LaCombe scored a pair of goals in the Orange’s 3-3 tie with Providence on Saturday.
The tie is the third straight for Syracuse, which moved to 1-1-3 on the year.
Freshman Abbey Miller got her first career starting nod between the pipes and made 22 saves for the Orange, who rallied from a late deficit with just over six minutes remaining in the third to salvage the tie.
Providence jumped out in front early, scoring on the team’s first shot just 1:20 into the game. Cassidy Carels deflected a Booke Boquist shot past Miller for the first goal of the game.
SU rallied with back-to-back goals in the second, first junior forward Melissa Piacentini scored from the slot, with  Nicole Renault and Jessica Sibley recording assists on the goal 2:23 into the 2nd period. It was the first power play goal of the season for SU.
14 minutes later, LaCombe struck for the Orange. She lit the lamp on a pass from Sibley – who assisted on all-three Syracuse goals – to give ‘Cuse its first lead of the game with 3:33 to go in the second period.
However, it wouldn’t last long as the Friars’ Lexi Romanchuk answered just 46 seconds later to even the game back at two heading back into the locker room.
With just inside of eight minutes to go in regulation, Beth Hanrahan gave Providence back the lead, but LaCombe wouldn’t allow the Orange to lose, netting the equalizer 1:21 later after being set
up by Piacentini and Sibley.
Despite a few flourishes in overtime, neither team would finish an opportunity, resulting in the Orange’s third-straight tie.
Syracuse outshot Providence 32-25 in the game, marking the third-straight time the Orange have owned the shots advantage.
