New York, NY – July 31, 2015: The NWHL (National Women’s Hockey League) announced today the signing of two players: Elena Orlando (Quinnipiac) to the New York Riveters and Corinne Buie (Providence) to the Boston Pride.
Corinne Buie was raised in Edina, Minnesota, where she played for the Minnesota Jr. Whitecaps. She went on to play for the Providence College Friars, where she became the 33rd Friar to accumulate 100 points (44g, 56a) in four years.
The forward was selected to the Boston Blades of the CWHL in the 2014 CWHL draft, and assisted on Janine Weber’s (NYR) game-winning goal in the 2015 Clarkson Cup championship game.
“I’m really looking forward to playing on the Boston Pride,” Buie said. “I’ll bring my speed to the forecheck and backcheck.
“I’m competitive and love the game, and I can’t wait to play alongside so much talent.”
Elena Orlando grew up in Winters, California, and went on to play for the Quinnipiac Bobcats from 2010 to 2014. The defenseman played in 84 games, accumulating 11 points (3g, 8a), including a game-winning goal her sophomore year against Princeton.
In addition to ice hockey, Orlando participated in rugby during her time at Quinnipiac.
“I’m excited to play in the NWHL because it is a giant step for women’s sports,” Orlando said, “Ever since I started playing hockey I’ve dreamed of playing at the highest level and being able to reach that is amazing.”
