WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team closed the weekend at Williams College with a 7-1 loss on Sunday afternoon. Oswego’s defeat drops the squad’s record to 3-6-0 overall while the Ephs improve to .500 (2-2-0).
Williams was able to post two goals in the first period and another two early in the second before the Lakers broke onto the scoreboard. The freshman duo of Leah Czerwinski and Emma Morisette connected for the Oswego tally at 15:25 of the middle frame. Morisette found her classmate for Czerwinski’s first goal of her collegiate career. The helper was Morisette’s third of the year, good for third-most on the Laker squad thus far in 2017-18.
A three-goal final period for Williams sealed the 7-1 outcome.
Junior goaltender Mikaela Ditonto earned her first-career start and made a career-high 29 saves between the pipes for Oswego. Sophomore Amber Samonek relieved Ditonto for the final 15:38, recording five saves to bring her season total to just south of 100 (94).
Oswego will seek a return to the win column at 7 p.m. on Friday when it hosts Cortland in the Marano Campus Center Arena. It will be the first contest of a home-and-home weekend series with the Red Dragons.
