OSWEGO, N.Y. – In a rematch of last year’s NCAA Championship semifinal game, the Oswego State men’s hockey team fell to No. 2 Adrian College 5-1 in the Championship game of the Pathfinder Hockey Classic at the Marano Campus Center Arena Sunday afternoon. The loss moves the Lakers to 7-5-1 on the season while the Bulldogs improve to 11-1-1.
Beaten by the Adrian through the first two stanzas, Oswego was in control of the third as it scored the lone goal. Chris Waterstreet ripped a slapper from the high slot that Kenny Neil deflected by the Adrian netminder, giving the Lakers their first tally of the game. Oswego wasn’t able to surmount the large deficit though, eventually falling to the Bulldogs.
Net time was split for Oswego as Adrian Ignagni played all of the first period, recording 15 saves. He was then relieved by Matt Zawadzki who finished out the game racking up 22 saves of his own.
Despite the loss, the Lakers found a bright spot on the penalty kill, denying Adrian all five of their opportunities. Oswego also took advantage at the faceoff dot, winning 45 of a possible 76 puck drops.
Men’s ice hockey will return to action at 7 p.m. on Friday as the team heads to Utica College for a non-conference clash against the Pioneers.
