OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team extended its win streak to nine games with a 2-1 win over Chatham University on Saturday afternoon in the Marano Campus Center Arena. Oswego’s nine-consecutive victories is the longest streak for the Lakers since the program was brought back during the 2006-07 season. With the win, the Lakers continue the best start in program history, posting an 11-2-0 mark overall and a 6-1-0 record in ECAC West competition. Chatham falls to 7-8-0, 2-6-0 after Saturday’s lost.

All three of the game’s goals came in a 2:14 stretch during the second period, opening with Olivia Ellis’ goal at 8:16. Ellis received assists from Andrea Noss and Rachel Lenard to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. Just 1:08 later, Chatham’s Cassidy Colhoun knotted the game again, scoring on a deflected puck that found her stick right in front of the net for a put back goal.

Oswego would steal the advantage right back, tallying a goal at 10:30. Again it was the trio of Lenard, Noss and Ellis that contributed on the goal, this time with Lenard scoring.

Bridget Smith earned the victory between the pipes for Oswego, making 22 saves on the afternoon. The senior is now 7-1-0 on the year, earning all seven of her wins during the Lakers’ current win streak.

As a team, Oswego outshot the Cougars 45-32 and won 12 more face-offs. For the second-straight day, the Laker penalty-kill unit was perfect, preventing any damage on one Chatham power play.

Oswego will remain at home for its next conference game, as Utica College comes to campus for a 3 p.m. battle on Tuesday.
