Oswego Women Cap Weekend With Win

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team capped off its weekend road trip with a 4-0 shutout victory over New England College on Saturday afternoon. Oswego improves to 1-1 on the season while New England falls to 0-2.

The Lakers got on the scoreboard first, thanks to a goal from sophomore Alli Ullich with just over 10 minutes on the clock in the opening period. Teammates Andrea Noss andLydia Cosgrove were credited with assists. Despite New England holding a slight 10-9 shot edge over Oswego, the Lakers headed into the locker room with a 1-0 advantage at the end of the first period.

That would be the last time the Pilgrims would lead in shots over Oswego. New England opted to go with a different goalkeeper to start the second period but the Lakers did not change their approach.  Brianna Ricescored a power-play goal on an assist by Olivia Ellis just 2:35 into the second period.

Heading into the third period with a 2-0 advantage, the Pilgrims switched goalie’s for a third time. Oswego grabbed two more goals in the period, however, as freshmen classmates Lydia Cosgrove and Andrea Nosstacked on a goal apiece. Rachel Lenard and Erika Truschke assisted on Cosgrove’s goal at 10:50while Rice and Ashley Lyman aided on the Noss goal at 13:18.

As a team, Oswego dominated the contest, winning 48-of-62 face-offs while taking 24 more shots than the Pilgrims (38-14).

Junior captain Tori Trovato got the fifth shutout of her career, collecting 14 saves to help secure the Lakers first win of the season.

The women’s ice hockey team will be back on the ice at 7 p.m. on Friday for its home-opener against Cortland.
