PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked Oswego State women’s ice hockey team’s 10-game unbeaten streak came to an end during a top-10 Saturday afternoon showdown, losing 4-0 to No. 1 Plattsburgh on the road. With the loss, the Lakers are now 11-3-1 on the year and 7-2-1 in ECAC West action while the Cardinals remain undefeated at 14-0-2, 10-0-0.

Bridget Smith was stellar in net for the Lakers, playing all 60 minutes to the tune of a season-high 44 saves. The senior’s 44 saves is not only her most during the 2014-15 campaign, but the second-most in a single game in her career. Smith’s career-high was set nearly two years ago when the goalie made 55 stops against Elmira College on Feb. 9, 2013.

Oswego was able to control the faceoff circle, winning 32-of-55 from the Cardinals. The Lakers were also sound on the penalty kill, not allowing a Plattsburgh power-play goal in three opportunities.

Olivia Ellis and Kendall Appelbaum combined to take 10 of the Oswego 20 shots in the game, but were unable to find the back of the net. Ellis’ line mates, Rachel Lenard and Andrea Noss, each had two shot attempts, as did teammate Brennan Butler.

Oswego and Plattsburgh will complete the weekend series on Sunday, with faceoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
