The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team started off White Out Weekend with a 3-1 over visiting SUNY Canton on Friday afternoon in the Campus Center Ice Arena. Oswego improves to 7-2-1 on the season with the victory while Canton falls to 4-4-2.

Ashley Lyman scored the Lakers first goal of the game with just over two minutes remaining in the first period. With 17:49 showing on the clock, Lyman received a pass from freshman teammate Erika Truschke straight off a faceoff. Lyman fired a shot which caught the crossbar and deflected down into the net for the score.

Another freshman got into the action for Oswego’s second goal as Bridget Hamlin netted her fourth goal of the year. Hamlin’s goal at 7:57 was scored during a power-play opportunity as Canton was whistled for roughing. The freshman got help from some upperclassmen on the play, as seniors Leslie Jarvis and Mady Paul were credited with assists on the play.

Canton got on the board with 2:35 left in the period but Oswego would not let the game get any closer. With :50 left in the second, senior Melissa Seamont put the Lakers back up by a two-goal margin, scoring off passes from captain Jocelyn St. Clair and rookie Monica Patten.

Catherine Cote improved to 5-2 in goal for the Lakers, stopping 11 shots on her way to the victory.

Oswego outshot the Kangaroos 35-12 in the contest, including 14-3 in the first period followed by a 13-4 advantage in the second.
