OSWEGO, N.Y. — (Oswego Photo) – The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team defeated the Cortland Red Dragons 2-0 on Sunday afternoon to remain perfect on the season. Oswego improves to 6-0 and 4-0 in the ECAC West, while Cortland falls to 0-4 overall and in the conference.
Alexa Aramburu tallied the first goal of the afternoon off criss-cross passing from the Lakers. Jacquelin White led the charge up the ice on the left, before sending the puck to Olivia Ellis on the right. Ellis then returned it back to the left side of the ice where Aramburu rocketed it past the goalie’s right shoulder to put Oswego on top.
The assist from Ellis was number 36 of her career, which sets a new program record. The junior passes both Olivia Boersen and Melissa Seamont to stand alone atop the list.
After seemingly coming out of the gates a bit sluggish in the first few minutes of the contest, Oswego turned it around almost immediately. Following the same script as Saturday’s game, the Lakers shot the puck often, recording 34 shots in the contest.
Cortland’s goalie Rachael Farmer turned in a strong performance, but wasn’t quite as good as the Lakers’ Mariah Madrigal. For the second-straight night, Madrigal made 11 saves en route to an Oswego win.
Andrea Noss added an insurance goal for the Lakers late in the final frame, which secured the 2-0 win. She forced the puck out of Cortland control and ripped it into the goal for her first tally of the season.
Women’s ice hockey team returns to the ice–on the road–at 3 p.m. on Saturday to play No. 1 Plattsburgh.
