OSWEGO, N.Y. – Three different players scored goals as the Oswego women’s ice hockey team defeated Cortland, 3-1, in NEWHL action Friday night. The Red Dragons fell to 2-5-2 overall and 1-5-1 in the conference with the loss. The Lakers improved to 4-6 and 2-3.
Sophomore Miranda Kolb (Watertown/Syracuse Nationals) netted her team-high seventh goal of the season for Cortland. Sophomore goalie Rachael Farmer (Grand Island/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) registered 36 saves.
Sarah Grupp recorded a goal and an assist to pace the Lakers. Olivia Ellis and Leah Czerwinski each netted a goal, while five others each contributed an assist. Goalie Amber Samonek made six saves.
After a scoreless first period, Grupp gave Oswego the lead at 3:36 of the second with her first goal of the season. Ellis made it a 2-0 game just 1:26 into the third period before Kolb’s short-handed score at 5:50 cut Cortland’s deficit to 2-1. Czerwinski clinched the win for Oswego with her goal at 14:37.
The two teams meet at Cortland on Saturday at 2 p.m.
