Leslie Jarvis (Jr., Newmarket, Ontario) picked a great time to score her first collegiate goal, as her power-play marker with 7.2 seconds remaining in overtime gave the Oswego State women’s ice hockey team a 2-1 victory over Neumann on Sunday afternoon. The win completed the sweep for the Lakers, who improved to 4-3-1 overall and 4-2-0 in the ECAC West. The Knights fell to 2-3-1 on the season and 2-2-0 in the league.
After a scoreless first period, Neumann’s Shanelle Doucette opened the scoring at 5:40 in the second period with Edie Brenning earning the assist for the lone goal of the frame.
Megan Hagg (Jr., Pickering, Ontario) leveled the score with 6:44 remaining in the third period after receiving a pass from Melissa Seamont (Jr., North Bay, Ontario). The Lakers killed off a high-sticking penalty late in the game, but were called for too many skaters with six seconds left in regulation. Neumann was unable to score as the game went into overtime.
Twenty-two seconds into the extra session, Oswego State was called for tripping and forced to kill off a 5-on-3 situation for 1:32. The Laker defensive unit did not allow a shot during that time to give momentum back to the visitors. Neumann was later called for tripping, giving Oswego State an extra skater for the final minute of the game. As the game appeared to be headed to a tie,Chelsea Hunt (Jr., Brockport, N.Y.) hit Leslie Jarvis with a pass for the game-winning goal on the Lakers’ fifth power play of the contest.
Bridget Smith (So., Hamburg, N.Y.) compiled 22 saves, including 11 in the pivotal third period, to improve to 4-1-1 on the season. Shannon Donnelly ended the game with 30 saves.
