New York, NY – The NWHL (National Women’s Hockey League) announced today the signing of two free agents to the league. Former University of Maine goaltender Brittany Ott signed with the Boston Pride and former Providence College forward Beth Hanrahan signed with the New York Riveters.

The St. Claire Shores, MI, native attended the University of Maine where she played as the Black Bear’s goaltender. During her time at Maine, Ott set multiple records and was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month, Defensive Player of the Month, and Defensive Player of the Week multiple times.

During her four years at Maine, Ott broke the school’s goaltending record by having the most saves in one game (76 against Boston College). After college, Ott was drafted in 2013 by the CWHL’s Boston Blades. Ott served as goaltender for the Blades in 2015 where they won the Clarkson Cup championship.

“I am confident that this team will leave a lasting legacy for the foundation of the NWHL so it may continue its growth for many years to come, and it is an honor to know that I will be a part of that foundation,” said Ott. “Many of the players on this team have been my teammates in the past, so I know we will come together quickly and start to find success early.”

Beth Hanrahan, of Poolesville, Md., attended Providence College where she was named Captain of the Friars and received the Hockey East Sportsmanship Award. During her senior year, Hanrahan lead Providence in points (26) with a team-best (15g/11a).

She also tied the school’s record for most games played (143), and ranked 10th overall in scoring in the Hockey East (15 goals). Hanrahan ended her final season as a Friar tied for fourth in the Big East Conference in game winning goals (2).

“It’s an amazing feeling to be part of the first NWHL season. Being able to be a part of something that is so big for women’s ice hockey is great,” said Hanrahan. It’s really exciting to help grow the game so young aspiring athletes can look forward to being a part of this league.”
