After struggling in their own end early, Bears Head Coach Jay Green called a time out to settle his team. Potsdam responded with two goals just 50 seconds apart midway through the opening period. After sustaining good pressure, Ott fired a high shot from the right point that beat Kangaroo freshman goalie Shayna Dominique (Mistissini, Quebec/Ontario Hockey Academy) at10:30. Freshman Alyssa Brockmann (Fairport, N.Y./Rochester Edge) and senior forward Jessica Silveira (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder) assisted on the goal. At 11:20,Amanda Lucky scored in the slot on a perfect pass from Grefke at right side of the net. Sophomore forward Sally Mooney (New Albany, Ohio/Wyoming Seminary) notched the second assist on the play. Canton generated a few strong scoring chances in the first period, but couldn’t beat Bears sophomore goalie Alexane Rodrigue (Monkland, Ontario/Bemidji State).
Both offenses controlled the play for long stretches during the middle stanza, but came up with little to show for it. Ott buried her second on a shot from the slot at the 5:38 with helpers from Peterson and Grefke. The Kangaroos continued to test Rodrigue in the second period, but she turned aside all eight shots she faced and Potsdam led 3-0 after 40 minutes.
Canton finally got on the board at 6:08 of the third period. Freshman forward Jessica Kistabish (Pikogan, Quebec/Ontario Hockey Academy) sent a perfect pass to sophomore forward Karley Kree (Hogansburg, N.Y./Salmon River) in front of the net and she beat Rodrigue through the five-hole. The Bears picked up their play after the goal and got an insurance tally at 15:20. A loose puck popped free to Crawford at the right side of the net and she fired it home to cap the scoring at 4-1. Junior captainIzzy Fayerman (Calgary, Alberta/The Edge) and Peterson recorded the assists.
Rodrigue stopped 24 shots to earn her fourth win of the season. Dominique finished with 36 stops. The Kangaroos were 0-1 on the power play and the Bears went 0-2.
