HAMILTON – Jacob Panetta (Belleville, Ontario) scored his first career goal for the Colgate men’s ice hockey team Saturday afternoon in the Raiders’ 6-3 loss to the nationally ranked No. 4/6 Quinnipiac Bobcats at Class of 1965 Arena.
Panetta, Tim Harrison (Duxbury, Massachusetts) and Brett Corkey (Calgary, Alberta) all scored for the Raiders with Panetta chipping in the Raiders’ 14th power-play goal of the season.
Late in the second period, Panetta cut the Raider’s deficit to two goals with his power-play goal. Quinnipiac’s Kevin McKernan went off with a penalty with 5:41 left. The Raiders worked the puck around the offensive zone where the puck came to Panetta who shifted it to Jake Kulevich (Marblehead, Massachusetts) on his right. Kulevich settled the puck and played it back to Panetta who blasted home the shot.
Harrison cut the Bobcats’ lead to one with his third goal of the season just 2:39 into the third period. Emilio Audi (Montreal, Quebec) worked the puck from the defensive zone to Derek Freeman (Newburyport, Massachusetts) in the neutral zone. Freeman shifted the puck to Harrison, who streak up the left boards into the offensive zone before shuffling a backhanded shot past Quinnipiac goaltender Chris Truehl.
Including Harrison’s goal, Colgate managed to pull within one goal of Quinnipiac twice in the game but could not overcome the deficit.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first six minutes on the game on Tim Clifton’s eighth and ninth goals of the season before the Raiders got on the board. With about 35 seconds left in the first period, Adam Dauda (Kitchener, Ontario) won a faceoff back to Corkey at the left point. Corkey blasted a one-timer through traffic and into the back of the net to make it 2-1.
