PLATTSBURGH, N.Y.-No. 2 Plattsburgh State (5-0, 4-0 NEWHL) scored four second period goals en route to a 7-0 victory over the SUNY Potsdam women’s hockey team (3-4-1, 2-3-1 NEWHL) on Saturday night. Bears sophomore goalie Samantha White (Oceanside, Calif./Anaheim Lady Ducks) made a career-high 46 saves. Seven different Cardinals scored.

The Cardinals didn’t slow down after a strong showing on Friday night. Plattsburgh outshot Potsdam 15-3 in the opening 20 minutes. White was sharp, stopping 14 shots for the Bears. However, Kaitlin Drew-Mead netted her second goal of the weekend 3:36 into the contest. Each team was 0-for-1 on a power play in the period and the Cardinals took their one-goal lead into the intermission.

Plattsburgh broke the game open in the second period with four goals in a 4:49 span. Abby Brush struck at 10:23, followed by Holly Schmelzer at 11:28. Madison walker scored at 12:35 and Hanna Rose completed the barrage at 15:12. The Cardinals led 5-0 after 40 minutes.

Plattsburgh added two more in the first 1:41 of the second period. Moe Tsukimoto found the back of the net 50 seconds in and Annie Katonka closed the scoring at 1:41.

Kassi Abbott made 17 saves for her fifth straight shutout. The Cardinals outshot Potsdam 53-17 and both teams were 0-for-4 on the power play.

The Bears are now off until Tuesday, Nov. 27, when they head south on Route 11 for a 7 p.m. matchup with SUNY Canton.
