CORTLAND, N.Y. – Sophomore Shannon Stewart (Pickering, ON/Durham West Lightning) recorded two goals and an assist and senior Teal Gove (Berwick, ON/Ontario Hockey Academy) scored twice as nationally top-ranked Plattsburgh defeated Cortland, 7-0, in an ECAC West contest. The teams meet again Saturday at 3 p.m. in Cortland.
Senior Sydney Aveson (West Covina, CA/Minnesota St.) made nine saves for her fourth shutout of the season as the Cardinals improved to 17-0-1 overall and 10-0 in league play. Cortland freshman goalie Deanna Meunier (Parsippany, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) registered a career-best 46 saves. The Red Dragons are now 4-7 in the ECAC West and 4-12-1 overall.
Cortland trailed only 1-0 after the first period as Gove scored 5:34 into the game off an assist from Stewart. The Cardinals broke the game open with four goals in the second. Emma Rutherford (Ottawa, ON/NAHA) scored 1:37 into the period, followed by Stewart at the 6:49 mark. Gove tallied on a power play at 13:04 and Stewart notched her team-high 17th of the season just 38 seconds later.
Plattsburgh’s final two goals came off the sticks of Bridget Balisy (Brampton, ON/Brampton Jr. Thunder) 11:40 into the third and Morgan MacInnis (Cornwall, ON/Nepean Jr. Wildcats) with 2:20 remaining. MacInnis finished with a goal and an assist.
