PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Shannon Stewart scored three times as nationally top-ranked Plattsburgh remained unbeaten with an 8-0 win over visiting Cortland in an ECAC West matchup.
Plattsburgh improved to 13-0-1 overall and 6-0 in the league, while Cortland fell to 2-9-2 and 1-5-1. The teams will meet again in Plattsburgh Saturday at 2 p.m.
Plattsburgh goalie Ally Ross made 11 saves for the shutout. Cortland sophomore goalie Deanna Meunier (Parsippany, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) recorded a career-high 60 saves, including 33 in the second period.
Stewart scored all three of her goals in a six-minute span during the second period as the Cardinals extended a 2-0 lead 2:57 into the stanza to a 5-0 lead at the 8:51 mark.
Jenny Kistner, Chelsea VanGlahn and Giovanna Senese each finished with a goal and an assist. Plattsburgh finished with a 68-11 advantage in shots on goal and converted on two of its four power-play opportunities.
Plattsburgh led 2-0 after one period on goals by VanGlahn and Caitlin Gilligan. After Stewart’s natural hat trick, Kistner scored 17:22into the second and the lead was 6-0 after two periods. Senese and Jordan Lipson added third-period tallies.
