Plattsburgh Overpowers Oswego

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team (7-7-1, 6-3-0 ECAC West) was simply overpowered by top-ranked Plattsburgh (12-0-1, 6-0-0) in an 8-0 loss Saturday at the Stafford Ice Arena. The Cardinals were fueled by line of Shannon Stewart, Teal Gove and Morgan MacInnis, who tallied 12 combined points.

Stewart got things underway with her first of four goals on the afternoon at the 8:06 mark of the first period to give Plattsburgh a 1-0 lead. The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission after Allison Era scored her eighth of the year at 12:35 from Emma Rutherford.

Stewart netted three of the five goals Plattsburgh scored in the middle stanza to complete her first career hat trick. The Cardinals also received goals from Chelsea VanGlahn and Giovanna Senese in the frame to go up 7-0.

Gove scored the lone goal of the third period tocap an afternoon with four additional assists.

Plattsburgh held a 42-18 advantage in shots on goal, but went 0-for-3 on the power play.

Oswego State’s Bridget Smith (So., Hamburg, N.Y.) suffered the loss, making 14 saves in 28:36. Smith was replaced by Tori Trovato (Fr., Fulton, N.Y.) in the second period, who allowed three goals on 23 shots the rest of the way. Plattsburgh’s Sydney Aveson turned away all 18 shots to earn her second shutout of the season.
