Sheeran notched a goal of her own to double the Cardinal’s lead. Meneghin fired a shot that created traffic in front of the goal and Sheeran tucked the puck over the goal line.
Plattsburgh broke the game open scoring six goals in the middle period. Jordan Lipson made the game 3-0 sending home a rebound from just in front of the goal. Nineteen seconds later, Giovanna Senese scored the Cardinals’ fourth goal, an unassisted blast from the left faceoff circle. Bridget Balisy netted her fourth goal of the weekend beating Spencer high glove side. Sheeran and Meneghin collected their third points of the night recording assists on the play.
William Smith (2-12-1) ended Plattsburgh’s five goal run midway through the second period. Krista Federow<http://www.hwsathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5542> collected a puck behind the net and sent a pass to Catherine Linehan<http://www.hwsathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5545> at the point. Linehan fired a shot that Kiley Fewster<http://www.hwsathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5543> tipped into the back of the net. The goal was Kiley Fewster<http://www.hwsathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5543>’s first collegiate goal. Federow notched her team-leading fourth assist and 10th point.
Shannon Stewart scored two goals 38 seconds apart to extend the Cardinals lead to 7-1. Alyssa Parke ended a seven goal period when she burried a shot from just in front of the net to put Plattsburgh up by seven after two periods. Stewart completed the hat trick at 6:12 of the third period. She beat Spencer high to the blocker side. Senese made it 10-1when she rifled a shot that snuck inside the left post. Katelyn Turk scored the game’s final goal at 17:04 on a shot that trickled through the goalie’s legs into the net.
This afternoon’s game was the first collegiate start for Spencer who made 54 saves in the contest including 21 in the first period. Ally Ross got the nod in net for Plattsburgh and stopped nine shots.
The Herons kept Plattsburgh’s power play off the scoreboard killing off both of the Cardinal’s opportunities. William Smith did a great job of closing down passing lanes and blocking shots while Plattsburgh had the extra attacker.
The Herons will return to action next weekend, Jan. 23-24, for a pair of ECAC West games in Buffalo, New York against Buffalo State.
