Plattsburgh Sweeps Oswego, Drops The Lakers, 5-0

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team completed the weekend sweep over Oswego dropping the Lakers by the final score of 5-0.

Plattsburgh State would jump on the Lakers in the first scoring twice by goals of Melissa Ames and freshman Courtney Moriarty to take a 2-0 lead.

Neither team was able to light the lamp in the second as the game remained 2-0 Plattsburgh State heading into the third period.

Sophomore, Melissa Sheeran would provide two insurance goals in the third period to give the Cardinals a 4-0 lead. The Schaghticoke, N.Y. native would net two goals in both games against the Lakers.

Ames would get her second of the game as well with 13 seconds left in the game to finish off the 5-0 victory for the Cardinals.

Camille Leonard continues her tare of shutouts, picking up her seventh-straight shutout and 11th overall. Her current streak stretches over 451 consecutive minutes and she now is tied for second in Cardinal history for shutouts in a season.

The top ranked Cardinals improve to a perfect 18-0-0 (11-0-0 ECACW) while Oswego slides to 9-5-3 (5-4-3 ECACW).

Next Plattsburgh State will travel to face rival Elmira in a matchup of the top two teams in Division III women’s hockey. Game times are scheduled for 3 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
