OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team (2-3-1, 2-2-0 ECAC West) played an aggressive game against Potsdam (1-4-0, 1-2-0 ECAC West), but was shut out 2-0 in the end Saturday afternoon.

The Bears got on the board early at the 4:58 mark when Jenn Crawford took a pass from Katie Komsa and Emilee Hazelden and shot it past Laker goalie Bridget Smith (So., Hamburg, N.Y.).

The second period finished with the same score. Both teams had quality chances to points on the board, but good defense prevented that from happening. Smith was a large factor for the home team as she kept Potsdam at one goal with several impressive saves.

Oswego State became more aggressive as it tried to tie the score in the third period. Smith was pulled toward the end of the period for the extra skater, while the Lakers were on the power play compliments of a Potsdam interference penalty. The Bears took advantage, though, as Crawford scored a short-handed, empty net goal to seal the win.

The Lakers were 0-for-9 in power play chances, while Potsdam was 1-for-5 in power play opportunities.

Smith made 16 saves in the losing effort, while Dawna Salvarinas made 19 stops in the win.
