CORTLAND, N.Y. – Senior Taylor Marcellus (Waddington/OHA) scored with 33 seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Potsdam women’s ice hockey team to a 1-1 overtime tie at Cortland Saturday afternoon in NEWHL action.
Sophomore Miranda Kolb (Watertown/Syracuse Nationals) scored her team-high fifth goal of the season for the Red Dragons (2-2-2, 1-2-1 NEWHL). Junior Charlie Calamari (Barrington, IL/Chicago Fury) and sophomore Emily King (Buffalo/Buffalo Regals) each assisted on the score. Sophomore goalie Rachael Farmer (Grand Island/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) turned aside 27 shots.
Junior Jenna Patterson (Boissevain, MB/Westman Wildcats) and freshman Natalie Wasielewski (Carnegie, PA.Pittsburgh Penguins Elite) recorded assists for the Bears (3-2-1, 1-2-1). Freshman goalie Samantha White (Oceanside, CA/Anaheim Lady Ducks) made 29 saves.
Kolb gave Cortland a 1-0 lead when she scored from the right side on a loose pick on the power play four minutes into the game. The score remained the same until Marcellus’ game-tying score. After the Bears pulled White for an extra skater with 45 seconds remaining, Marcellus scored her third goal of the season 12 seconds later on a loose puck in front. The Bears outshot Cortland, 2-1, in overtime, but neither team had a quality chance.
