POTSDAM, N.Y.-SUNY Potsdam women’s hockey players Natalie Wasielewski (Carnegie, Pa./Pittsburgh Penguins Elite) and Alexa Pfeiffer (Sylvania, Ohio/Little Caesar’s) have been recognized for their play during the week ending November 24. Wasielewski is the Northeast Women’s Hockey League’s Player of the Week and Pfeiffer is the NEWHL’s Goalie of the Week.
Wasielewski, a junior forward, had a six points in three games for the Bears. She recorded a career-high four assists in an 8-3 victory over Saint Michael’s College last Tuesday. She then added two more in Potsdam’s 3-1 win at Morrisville on Friday. This season, Wasielewski leads the Bears in scoring with one goal and nine assists for 10 points. She ranks sixth in the NEWHL in scoring and third in assists. With her big week, Wasielewski has moved into a tie for 13th place on the program’s scoring list with 37 points on 16 goals and 21 assists.
Pfeiffer was 1-1 last week with a 2.01 goals-against-average and a .947 save percentage in two starts. The senior captain made 32 saves in the Bears win at Morrisville to claim her 23rd career victory. She then stopped a season-high 43 shots in a 3-1 loss to Oswego on Saturday and didn’t allow an even-strength goal. Pfeiffer is Potsdam’s NCAA-era wins leader and has been named the Goalie of the Week three times.
The Bears return to action on Wednesday, December 4, when they travel to No. 1 Plattsburgh State for a 7 p.m. matchup. The Cardinals claimed a 2-1 overtime victory in the teams’ first meeting on November 13.
